| New computer bring several questions... Hi all, I apologise in advance, I have a slight learning difficulty so go easy on me! I also think this post should go into another forum as well, but I am not sure :o) I recently purchased a Dell and after getting it setup almost like my old computer I noticed a few things. 1) In the bottom right hand corner there is an icon that looks like 2 computers with a big red X. I doubleclick it and it brings me to the Network Connections folder where it has a "Dialup" section where my DSL modem is, and a "LAN or High-Speed Internet" section where there is an icon that is like a bigger version of the little icon on bottom right of desktop. It says: Local Area Connection Network cable unplugged Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network ... As I don't have a network cable I right click the icon and select 'Disable'. A error box comes up called 'Error Disabling Connection'. That says: It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user or the system account. Is there anyway or disabling it and removing it from the bottom of the screen? 2) I am using Windows Media Centre 2005 (I think) with a TV Tuner card. I have wired it all up to the aerial, but when I open Media Centre and try to set up the TV automatically, it cannot find any signal, so I do it manually and find the 4 channels We normally get here on terrestial TV, but when I try to view the channels it shows the channel name and program titles, but all I get is a black fuzzy picture. I don't know how to improve this. 3) What with it being a Dell, I have a lot of programs that come with the computer that I have never ever heard of, and I don't think I will ever use them, however I am worried about deleting or uninstalling them, in case they are important, or needed for other programs to work. I have run a HiJackThis, and saved the log, but I am not sure with what to do with it. Could someone advise me on this please. | Re: New computer bring several questions... Well, as far as the icon on the bottom of the screen goes, the only thing u can really do is hide it by right ckicking the taskbar, going to properties, than check "hide inactive icons"(if not already checked) at the bottom of the dialog box, then click on the "customize" button and select any traybar icon that you dont want to be displayed. |
