Notes About DSL Signals/Connectivity Issues If you are not able to connect to the Internet reliably, speedily, or at all on a DSL line, chances are you have no DSL signal or it is not in sync. Slow or sporadic downloads are also often the fault of your ISP. 1.5 Mbps bandwidth is sufficent to view most "streaming" videos. The video or animation , in other words, is able to be viewed immediately, without interruption, once the download commences (or a "buffering" process is completed) . My DSL modem has a panel of idiot lights that indicates its operating status: Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet and Activity. If the DSL LED flashes red and/or green (not steady light) then a correct DSL signal in sync is not detected. Call your ISP to report trouble if the modem' s telltales do not indicate an Internet connection or a steady DSL signal. Your computer's Network Connections window (in MS Windows) might say you are "connected", but that is only from the Ethernet port to the modem itself. If the modem does not indicate by an LED that you are connected to the Internet, then you are NOT connected to the Internet, period. Generally, the modem's Internet LED turns on steady green when the browser is launched after initially powering up the modem. Regardless, always check the Internet light on the modem itself to see if the Internet light is on steady (and the DSL light is on steady) if you have trouble opening up web pages or get a "white page" with a nasty message WEB PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED displayed on your browser at launch.

Re: Notes About DSL Signals/Connectivity Issues Your simple checklist - There could be more reasons but these are the top ones. 1. Modem should have steady Internet light. If not, reboot modem and wait until it does become steady. If not, call ISP. This is 70% internet provider related and 30% modem related. 2. If you have a router, and you can't connect to the to the internnet when connected to the router, time to bypass it and check if it's a DSL line issue. If you can get online, then you know the router is causing the problem. 3. If unable to connect wirelessly, but you can get online when wired, you probably used the set-up CD to set-up wireless security and have not set-up the same wireless securty settings on the computer. You need to check that as well. 4. If another computer can get online through the modem but not yours then either a. your ISP only recognizes that computer and you need a router b. OR you've set-up a static IP on the PC that doesn't connect c. OR , you don't have the DSL software provided to be able to connect d. OR, if no software was provided in the first place, then your computer is not set-up to connect to your DSL using the username and password they've provided. 5. Always check you IP address when connected to the modem. You should be getting DNS addresses that are vaild. 6. If you are getting valid IP addresses, or at least you think they're valid, ping a website by going to a DOS prompt and type "ping www.google.com". If you get a reply then you know your online. If you get a reply but you can't open the site on your browser, then it could a proxy setting issue. Turn-off your other ISP dialer. If you need help on any of these, call this number 1-877-787-8749 for free (1-time only). This guys will give you a free support call if you tell them that you have a promo code called "supportcall". Thanks!

Re: Notes About DSL Signals/Connectivity Issues Just simply do a power cycle on your DSL modem and see if it resolves it...what i meant was simply unplug the power cord that connects to the modem for 5-10 sec then plug it back and wait for around 5-10 mins for the signal strenght to pickup and you should be back online... if nothing happens, do the same to the router...if all else fails, contact your ISP... cheers Basil.
