Screeching to a halt...
 

Computer slowing to a freeze...took 2o+ mins to reboot, (after 4 tries) couldn't function in safemode (keyboard & mouse non-functional) couldn't restore. Am losing my apps in Start bar, losing Icons. Have cleaned out the system over the last couple of days with Adaware, AVG, Spybot, CCCleaner, etc...HELP!!!!

Can you please do the following.

You will have to disable Spybot's Teatimer before we begin, as it will interfere with the fix. To do this can you start Spybot and go to the Mode button and select Advanced. Go to Tools > Resident and uncheck the box next to Tea-Timer. Make sure that the icon in the system tray is no longer there. If it is, just right click on it and select "Exit".
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.
Do not forget to re-enable teatimer when we are done :).
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.

Can you also disable Adwatch. You may need to even uninstall it temporarily if those entries cannot be 'fixed' with hijackthis.

Have cleaned out a few more entries; new log...
Would like some advice as to removal of Norton. Am getting a consensus from others' postings that all it does is eat up resources. That is the feeling I get also. What do I replace with? Please advise?
Any thoughts on a firewall to install would also be appreciated.

Log looks clean. IMO Norton has to be the biggest resource hog available. Used to have it myself until I saw it approach 100Mb of RAM usage.
Norton uninstall Tool.

I use and recommend Avast antivirus and Comodo Firewall. Both have free versions.
