| Virus is changing taskbar color to gray and disables my sound. HELP! When I boot up my computer for the first few minutes it is normal. Everything looks and works just fine. After 5 minutes, the taskbar changes to the old windows gray color and my voume for my Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS doesn't work. Sigmatel volume doesn't work, no volume works! I even uninstalled my volume software and reinstalled it with no luck. Sometimes when I startup the computer, everything works fine, but the majority of the time, this problems occurs. This has been going on for two days now, because my computer was infected with some virtumonde virus and I ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Kaspersky's Internet Security Virus Scan, Spybot Search & Destroy, Registry Mechanic, Webroot SpySweeper, and CCleaner, to remove these infections and the results showed that they had been removed. However, my voulme is now disabled (my speakers are connected and configured properly) and my task bar is gray. When I go to the control panel to look at my devices, everything is in order. But it says "No Audio Device". I updated all the drivers and changed my taskbar style to the XP style, rebooted the computer and 5 minutes later, the taskbar changes back to the gray style and the sound goes out. HELP ME! | Thanks, but I think I fixed the problem. I got fed up with the computer so I just restored it back to it's factory defaults (you can do this with Dell's made after 2003). I got Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security because I heard that it is one of the best virus/spyware programs available. Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security detected two viruses or adware files that weren't detected before and I removed these files from the computer. I lost everything on the computer, after doing this fresh "reinstallment", but everything works fine now. Thanks for your help anyway. -Walton- |

| Re: Virus is changing taskbar color to gray and disables my sound. HELP! I am having this exact same problem. 5 minutes after I start the computer I see the taskbar change to old windows 98 style (from xp) minimize to one line (from the usual two lines I have it at), then back to windows xp style. After this happens my audio is messed up and i have to install the audio driver again to fix it. I have also noticed a problem with network connections after the taskbar does it's "thing" I have followed everything in this thread, but it didn't seem to help - I didn't have any of the hijackthis posts that were mentioned either though??? | Re: Virus is changing taskbar color to gray and disables my sound. HELP! Hi tdoto. First of all- welcome to Daniweb :). We ask that members not piggy-back questions on to a thread previously started by another member here in the Viruses, Spyware & other Nasties forum, (regardless of how similar your problem might seem). Not only does it divert the focus of the thread away from the original poster's problem, but it also makes it less likely that you yourself will get the individual attention that you need. Please start your own thread and post your question there. When you do, please try to give us as much specific info as possible regarding the problem (exact error messages, system specs, etc.). For a full description of our posting guidelines and general rules of conduct, please see this page: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforum..._faq#faq_rules Thanks for understanding. |
