Newbie here deperate for virus help!!
 

My computer keeps popping up saying that I have a virus and now I can't open programs. I had to start in safe mode to run HiJackThis (I hope that is ok for finding things to fix)

I'm so desperate for help you guys. I'm in college and I cant even use my computer. I'd appreciate help so much.....

Update hijackthis to version 2.0.2 and do NOT run it from the zip folder as you are currently doing,but unzip it to a permanent folder and run it from there.

First off, thank you so much overwhelmed and crunchie!

About 3 weeks ago i managed to run a couple antivirus programs that found and removed/fixed about 1500 infected files. If i remember correctly, it was some type of Win32 virus. Since then, I can atleast use the computer and get on the internet. After that, I tried running additional virus programs but a couple of them wouldnt run because there are still parts of McAfee on my computer even though I have tried to delete it.

Im sure there are still some problems with my computer and youve already found some (thanks again).

So, I deleted what you instructed me to on hijackthis, and now ive ran another hijackthis log in what i think is a permanent folder rather than the zip one like before.

What problems are you still having?

You will have to disable Spybot's Teatimer before we begin, as it will interfere with the fix. To do this can you start Spybot and go to the Mode button and select Advanced. Go to Tools > Resident and uncheck the box next to Tea-Timer. Make sure that the icon in the system tray is no longer there. If it is, just right click on it and select "Exit".
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.
Do not forget to re-enable teatimer when we are done :).
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
