Cursor freezes in safe-mode screen - cannot get to safe-mode

When I first start up my computer, it goes to the safe-mode screen automatically. After this, my cursor will not move within the screen to get to the safe-mode to select it. Therefore, since the cursor sticks - windows counts down and then it recycles and does the same thing over and over.

Can use any help on what my next step might be here. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am trying to fix a pc for a friend. He has a HP Pavillion with a SATA HD (1) and SATA Lightscribe DVD Writer (2).

System is set to Boot from DVD first then HD.

The HD is the Primary Master and the DVD is the Primary Slave.

Installation of XP Pro begins but at first reboot the installation process starts all over again rather than picking up from where it left off.

Just to make sure I have taken the HD out an formatted (NTFS) it in my own machine to make sure it is empty. I can write and save to the HD while it is in my PC without any problems.

Does any one know what is going on and have some solutions?

I'm getting a persistent Blue Screen of Death which seems to kick in after the computer has been left idle for a while and the CPU starts racing and I get a blue screen. It first happened after I was watching a film off a friend's USB stick.

Microsoft on Tuesday is set to release six security updates, three of which it has deemed critical and apply only to versions of Windows other than Windows 7. Microsoft released advance notice of its Security Bulletin for November, on Nov. 5. The bulletin itself will be released on Tuesday along with remedies, as per its normal patch cycle. Other alerts are labeled "important," one of which involves a denial of service vulnerability for Windows; the other two affect Excel. Redmond will reportedly release updates for Windows XP, 2003 and 2007 and Office 2004 and 2008 for Mac OS X.

Save the one warning of DoS attacks, all the vulnerabilities involve remote code execution, as did the 13 patches released by Microsoft on October 13, fixing nearly three dozen flaws, all of them critical. A critical warning is one "whose exploitation could allow the propagation of an Internet worm without user action," according to the company, while one that is one step down at important, is said to be one that "could result in compromise of the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of users data, or of the integrity or availability of processing resources."

Microsoft on Monday also released an update to MS09-054, the part of its October patch-fest that applied to Internet Explorer. This one, which went somewhat under the radar, as explained on the company's technet Website, addresses the way pages are rendered.

Toshibe laptop keeps starting on control mode

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop that I purchased about 1year ago. It worked great for about 6 months or so. I purchased a new laptop around that time and haven't touched it since. I would like to sell it now and when I went in to test it and make sure everything was working OK, I noticed that the internet would not work...I installed Chrome, FireFox, IE6, IE7, and IE8. None of them worked, I also went as far as formatting the hard-drive, reinstalling Vista, and reinstalling all three of these browsers and it still will not work. I am really at a loss to figure out what is happening here??? The only thing that is consistent is the fact that when I try to open any page I get a message that states (for example...)"The server at www.google.com is not responding". Any input would be greatly appreciated.

slow windows xp (32 bit) startup with kaspersky internet security 2010

Recently I have been having a slow XP startup that after many sleepless nights I have narrowed down to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. I believe I have a solution that you may try if you are having the same problem.
Just disable it from running at system startup. Settings/Protection in the application menu. After you have done this go into the task scheduler. Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Task Scheduler. It should be near the bottom.
I have scheduled Kaspersky as a task to run everytime I logon and after 4 successive boots, I am having no slow startup. I admit it's not running at computer startup, but if it impedes my use of the computer then it's not really worth it IMO. You might try to run the task at system startup, but I haven't tested it. I haven't really tested this either, but it seems hopeful. Hope this may help anyone with the same problem. I couldn't find any answers.

HELP PLEASE!!

I got 2 partitions C and D. C: is my main drive. Both have OS installed.

A week ago, C: is not starting up. Since then, I'm using D:. When I was trying to retrieve a file stored in C:, a message appeared saying C is not formatted and asked if I want to format it now. I also tried to explore Drive C but same message appears after hanging for some seconds.

HELP, I think my C: got damaged. Is there any way I can RETRIEVE files from that drive? I got tons of important files saved there. My friend suggests Partition Magic. I just don't know if it would work.

I haven't wanted to ask anyone this for fear of sounding stupid. I have a PC running an AMD processor and a geforce video card. It's hard to find mobos with that combination. Most mobos that I like have an AM3 socket but an ATI Radeon video chipset. I don't do SLI so one PCI-E 2.0 slot is enough. Will my geforce card work on these mobos even though they are ATI chipsets?

I have a machine here running Windows XP with office 2007. The prob is when you send a mail it shows 2 mails leaving outbox. I've checked for spyware with ScanSpyware and the have licensed nod32 firewall and antivirus running for over a year. I checked if it might be some setting but everything is seems fine. No read receipts etc. which I thought could cause it either.

Has anyone ever heard about outlook 2007 or earlier doing this? It bugs me and would really want to change this, or atleast understand why.

This post is to help a chap who pc'd me; I put it here in full to aid others.
Nouveaunoise "hello there my name is conor i am from ireland and i have a problem with my comp. basically im an idiot and did something i knew i shouldnt have done but due to frustration i did it anyway.
basically i had bad malware + b.exe and all sorts of problems which i was unable to resolve.
this all crippled my os and would not allow me to delete any of it. it crippled my system restore (group administrator block bullshit) it also wouldnt allow me to enter safe mode (blue screen shut down), so me being an idiot i did the msconfig safeboot! BOLLOX why did i do that i shouldn have done that. u know what happened from there as you posted on this very matter a few years ago.
i had no xp cd so i made a usb bootable recovery console http://tuts4tech.net/2009/07/14/crea...overy-console/ which worked fine. the problem im having is when i enter bootcfg the options come up. but when i prompt one of them i cant access anything. example bootcfg /list = there are currently no boot entries available to display.
bootcfg /rebuild = error: failed to successfully scan disks for windows instalations. this error may be caused by corrupt file system. so i do the chkdsk the volume appears to be in good condition the thing that gets me is the size 1957600kilobytes. (i know im really stretching this out so for that i am sorry) basically the usb is 2gig so it is obviously reading that and thats why it wont let me into the bootcfg to edit the safeboot switch."

Hello, Conor... a bit of bad luck there. Windows is chokka with traps for the unwary, and most of us are that at first.
Okay, running an RC from a USB stick. First off, it is a bit of a worry that when RC was starting it did not suggest your Windows installation to log into [ie. you are in the RC, but it uses C:\WINDOWS as the prompt if it found an installation, or C:\ if it did not].
bootcfg /scan will hunt through all your drives for a Windows. If it reports a drive error then you are most likely using Sata drives with either RAID or AHCI configuration without the correct driver loaded. So restart your RC, but this time use the F6 key to load the corrrect Sata driver. It will be on a floppy...
No floppy with the Sata driver? Then go into BIOS and edit temporarily your Sata Configuration to IDE emulation. Either way, the RC should now find your Windows installation.
But you cannot use the other bootcfg commands to build a boot.ini, because your RC is running from a USB stick. In any boot.ini that you build or add an entry to, rdisk() will be set to rdisk(1). And if your Windows is on rdisk(0) as most are, it just won't work. And you cannot edit the boot.ini in-place with RC. Neat, huh?
What you can do, though, is get a copy of your boot.ini :
First, you must find what drive letters the RC has allocated. To do that, use the command...
MAP - you should be able to recognise your stick letter. If a Windows was found, it will be C:, if not then your stick RC will be C:
Lets say your stick is E: Then this will give you a copy of your file...
COPY c:\boot.ini E:\realboot.ini
Or you can scribble it down if it won't copy....
TYPE c:\boot.ini
Right. Back to your working sys with that stick, edit that realboot.ini file [or make one with notepad from your scribble] so that you delete the parameter "/SAFEBOOT....." from the line on which it appears.
Save it to your USB stick as realboot.ini
It may look something like this...

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Restart the failed sys with the RC USB stick [and use F6 floppy if Sata and you did not emulate IDE ]. Now...
COPY e:\realboot.ini c:\boot.ini
EXIT, and it ought to boot normally. Edit the BIOS entry back to AHCI or RAID if you changed it.
Of course, you know now that malware has busted your Safeboot key in registry, don't you? So that needs fixing.... post if you need help on that.

Laptop stalls on startup

My daughter just received a refurbished laptop from the grandparents as a birthday gift. It worked fine for a few days but now it won't go very far during startup. It's a Compac Presario V2000 and I can't even tell what the OS is or any other details. The startup screen shows 5 lines and just repeats over and over. There is also an unnerving rather prominent clicking noise that persists as it rolls through the attempted startup. Below are the five lines.

XP SP3 not using second core

I have a machine with XP Pro SP3, on an Asus P5L...something board and an Intel E5200 dual core CPU.
The BIOS shows both cores, and windows shows both cores in device manager, but not in Task Manager.

From what I've googled, it seems to be a problem with the HAL ACPI thing, needs to be a multiprocessor one, but I don't know how to switch it?

Can't find a boot device.

I ran a repair install on windows XP. Then I encountered this phenomena:
computer fails to boot: can't find a boot device.
BUT, if there is a windows xp disk in the CD drive, then it will boot windows as long as i don't press any key to boot from CD.

The boot.ini file looks fine. The recovery console commands fixmbr and fixboot did not solve the problem. Running another repair install with SP3 (first time was with SP2) also didn't fix the problem.

Whatever command the BIOS uses to launch the OS isn't working, but whatever command the windows CD is using does work. Any idea how to fix this?

i deleted upper and lower filters by accident the other day.a forum said if i deleted them my dvd would work again.but t hts the least of my problem here been scrating my head for dayz.my keyboard have stopped working completely.the keyboard works in bios by after tht nothing.i have tried everything reset bios by removing battery.tried the last known good config.i havent got a xp boot disk or any disk.they only thingi can think of is burn the driversi need onto a cd then load on my pc.but obviously it wont just load.i am using a laptop but was wondering if i could connect it 2 pc but dont know howim trying 2 figure out how i would about fixing this its a ball breaker lol .cheer people

Almost every time I shut off my computer, I get a message saying the application failed to initialize because Windows was shutting down. This seems to be shellmon.exec from Aol 9.1 program files. I have closed Aol and gone off line, waited for a minute or more, and then tried to shut down the computer, but still get the message. What gives? noretel

I have not been able to access "user accounts" in windows xp for some time now. I have run anti virus, spy bot and tried a few other recommended "fixes" I have found online. So far they haven't worked.

I found the following, post on this forum and tried it.

I found a fix at another forum that fixes the User Control error issue:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 nusrmgr.cpl

regsvr32 themeui.dll
regsvr32 Vbscript.dll

Save this file as User_Acct_Fix.cmd on your desktop to easily find it.
Click on User_Acct_Fix.cmd on your desktop to run the program. Now see if the User Accounts are available.
This will re-register the above dll's etc in the registry.

XP Keeps Restating

Hi there. I was installing some software, just a statistics program, but when I changed the disc as prompted, the computer jammed. I shut it down manually but since then the computer refuses to start up.

The power works fine and it gets to a screen where it reads:

Checking NVRAM..
A: Drive Error
Press F1 to Resume

So I press F1 and I get the loading screen with the Windows XP logo, then the screen just goes blank and restarts itself.

I've tried starting it in Safe Mood and Last Know Configuration but the screen just goes blank and brings me back to the "checking NVRAM.." page.

Any ideas as to what's wrong and what I can do to solve this?

I have a bulk of folder and word and excel files.
i.e A Folder contains so many sub folder and sub folder contains SUb SUb folder and inside
excel and word file.
I mean there are thousand of file in sub folder.

Is there any technique or script that help us to take print the all through print command.
Is it rigorous to manually open each file and then take each individual print.
So it is quite time taken job and tedious also.

Please sugget ?

I brought a new Philips 20" LCD Monitor. When I plugged in the monitor, the screen resolution was 1024X768. After I installed the nvidia card 7100GS driver, the resolution became 640X480. I am not able to increase it to any higher resolution. Every thing in the computer appears really big! Is there any way I can make this proper?

DVD writer not reading some discs

The DVD drive (Pioneer DVR-K14VAS drive) on my Sony Vaio laptop has recently developed a weird problem - it only reads DVDs and CDs bought from a store - like movies or music CDs.

It does not read any of the CDs or DVDs that I have burnt over the years - windows pops up a message that the disc is empty. I can check using an external drive that the disc is not damaged. In particular it does not boot from the recovery CD.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

Edit: Windows XP Home is the OS.

A couple of nights ago I opened a video file with winamp, which told me that I needed to download a codec to watch said file. So I downloaded the codec and clicked Run (not Save) and suddenly my comp BSOD's on me and shuts down. I dunno if this is important, but I was also extracting a .rar file with WinRAR at the time.

What's happening now is that my comp boots, then I get the "Windows did not start successfully....Boot in Safe Mode, Last Known Good configuration, etc." but it restarts everytime I'm supposed to get to Windows, no matter which option I pick. The loading screen for Windows DOES show, but I get the BSOD when I'm supposed to have Windows.

Can the situation still be salvaged? I don't want to have to pay through the ass for a reformat...

System Specs:
CPU: Pentium Dual Core, forgot clock speed
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8400
RAM: 2 GB
Hard Disks: 2, with 2 partitions each = 4 partitions

Also, I'm thinking since the problem is only with Windows, can I try installing Windows on a separate partition to back up my files at the very least before reformatting? I lost my XP CD a few months back..

clicking taskbar button does not minmize application

hello!

I have two problems that I am unable to solve.. hope someone here can help me out with this.

First,
When I click on the taskbar button of my uTorrent or Firefox window, it does not minimize it, instead the window just loses its focus. All the other programs behave as expected. I have tried restarting explorer.exe and system restart as well, but still the problem persists.

sometimes they work as expected, but with the next system restart, the same problem happens again..

there aren't any problems when I right click the taskbar button and minimize..

Second,
When I terminate a program which has an icon in the notification area, say VLC player, through Task manager instead of the close button, then the icon in the notification area does not disappear unless i move the mouse over it, though the application itself is successfully terminated. This does not happen when I close the apps normally..

what could be cause of these problems? Maybe some corrupt/missing registry entries??

I am running XP SP3 Home edition, have scanned my entire system with Avira AntiVir and found it to be 100% clean.

I’m convinced it has to do with the new external iomega hard drive I installed. I tried unplugging the device and the screen still appears. I also inserted the CD that came with my laptop to system restore but after I follow the commands and press C for continue nothing happens. The screen stays the same so I assume the restore is working but maybe an hour or even 5 hours later, (I’ve tried it three times) the laptop goes blank.

2 Network Drive

I changed the network drive name from the original letter S: to T: and now the user is having problems, when he tries to log into that network drive. Everyone else in the company is mapped to an S: drive and can access it without a proble.

HELP - userinit.exe - application error

I am a tech for a school district. We are having issues with users logging in and getting this error: userinit.exe - application error The application failed to initialize properly. Click on ok to terminate the application.

Once they click on Ok their Icons do not appear, some get text but no icon and some get nothing at all on their desktops. If you try to log off with c-a-d then it brings up the box but doesn't let you use any of the options on the screen because the icons aren't there.

We have tried several fixes, one of them being ComboFix, it worked on a couple of the computers but it is not a fix all on all of them district wide. We have also wiped the computers and reloaded them from scratch and as soon as you get through and log in they get the error again. HELP....I need suggestions.

Thinkpad will not connect to WPA

This is for an IBM Thinkpad R40. The computer has XP (service pack 3) installed, all windows updates installed, etc. Basically, I can connect to WEP and unsecured networks, but nothing in regards to WPA. As a matter of fact, when I attempt to connect to a WPA network, it responds with this message basically stating the network appears to be unresponsive, etc. Going in to try and enable the network manually allows only for WEP encryption, not WPA

I've tried to update the drivers for the wireless, but they appear to be updated properly. The wireless driver I have installed is Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter and the other non-wireless is Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection. Again, don't really know what's the problem, but I am willing to try anything.

Does any1 know how 2 fix this problem???

I'm stuck at the welcome screen but this isn't a typical locked out scenario;
I know my password, my OS is fine, but I installed a new videocard driver which makes my monitor think its much bigger than it is. As a result, all I can see is the OS telling me to click on a user to begin logging in; unfortunately, clicking the user isn't an option, since it's located perhaps 15 inches above the actual size of my monitor. Are there any shortcut keys to select the user to log in? Safe mode isn't an option, as that requires me to log in too.

hey people i have a small problem with my xp.. now this has always been a smallish problem with it but now its getting way worse. the system is just randomly shutting off... like if i leave it on for a night it usually will be restarted when i wake up. but just today when i was trying to start it up it gets to the desktop.. then about five or 6 minutes later it goes black, ive tried safe mode same result im scared to do a system restore because i would hate for it to go off in the middle of it. ive checked all the fans on it they are all working perfectly, and i have an older xp hard drive in it now and its working perfect too. anyone have any explanations for this? id love to get it working again

The title pretty much explains it. Windows XP wont boot to the desktop. When I turn the computer on, it gets to the loading XP screen then a blue screen appears briefly then it reboots. I entered the boot menu and checked boot orders, made sure all HDDs were connected, all drives, etc. I checked the post log and it said theres a CMOS Checksum error, No keyboard and a CMOS POST Failure I do believe. I changed Jumpers on the CMOS and cleared it, I also set the system time and it seems to be holding, so I dont know about the CMOS battery being low or bad. Also I can get to the "Start Windows Normally" "Load lAst known Good COnfiguration" "Safe Mode" "Safe mode with Networking" and "Safe Mode with CMD line" screen, each option I choose other than Start windows Normally, Just freezes the PC and it wont do anything. When I choose Start normally, it just reboots and starts all over again. Any ideas? because im stumped

I could get some 20 infected items I removed it. IObit security there is a security option where i never installed security updates from microsoft other than WinXPSP 1 2 and 3. So i installed it on my computer after that . after 1 hour i again rebootted the computer . Stop error blue screen so i restarted my computer. booted winxp in safemode and sorted out this stop error issue. now The Chdsk option comes every time at startup First attempt winXP will not boot properly and hangs up after sometime. Then as no option is left i press the rest button on my computer. It again reboots after conducting chkdsk and after that boots fully. I searched some forums but i couldnt find solution. Please help

running xp pro, system started freezing especially when on the internet, even though system is always on broadband w/ a router. updated all anti- software and scanned several times w/ avg8.5, superantispyware, malwarebytes, ad-aware, spybot. Nothiing detected. After a few days i was getting error msg at restart about normaliz.dll not being found. some research says that dll is a legit win file in system 32, but it does not show up anywhere in windows. my wallpaper loads but no desktop, clock or start button. can launch programs only from task manager. tried reinstalling xp, but system says no disk in drive (tried both drives and an external),even changed boot order in bios but cannot boot from cd. tried booting from floppy but cannot reformat ntfs from this. also downloaded the missing dll to usb drive where it shows up on my laptop, but when i move drive to the pc, that file does not appear. weird huh?,
cannot dismount volume that is running win, however lamely.
also tried several restore points, nothing.

just got win 7 and would like to install.

any ideas how to force a format? this pc is only a year old, and i used to be a techie but am ripping my hair out.

A public beta is expected next month, which according a speech given by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer last week will demonstrate significant new functionality. What Ballmer didn't directly confirm in his speech was recent speculation that that by June of 2010, the platform will no longer ride along with Windows Server products, but instead be offered stand-alone.

Helping to fuel the speculation about platform status of SharePoint 2010 was talk of a set of new cloud-based APIs; support for business connectivity services, permitting developers to connect application or Web-service data with SharePoint or Office client apps; REST, LINQ and ATOM support; an improved SharePoint designer; social tagging and "backstage" life-cycle management links with Office; and integration with Visual Studio 2010. Also new will be hosted and on-premise versions.

Speaking at Microsoft's SharePoint conference in Las Vegas on Oct. 19, Ballmer himself referred to the tool as a platform, implying that it had evolved hast its previous status as merely a server application. "SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business.” The update is scheduled for general availability "in the first half of 2010," which typically means June.

The new tools also reportedly will simplify Website creation with native support for video, audio and Silverlight, as well as content management and adherence to WCAG 2.0 . I usually run in a Limited Users account to leave Administer Acct. closed against attack. In the past few weeks I"ve been unable to access User Accounts. If I click on Pick A Task I get the three choices: Change Accounts, Create a New Account etc...click on any of these and I get a large blank dialog box with the Windows logo, the title User Accounts in the blue border at the top, then in a tool bar just below that a left-right set of arrows, the User logo and the word "Home." No clicking taks me anywhere. Of course below Pick a Task is "or pick a Control Panel Icon" here I have "Cardspace" with no icon and User Icon with that icon. User takes me to the blank screen while this "Cardspace" takes me no where.

I went through the My Computer tree and discovered some sort of "English something or other Toolbar attached to Control Panel and deleted it with Revo-Uninstaller which is usually excellent. Now i can find no way to get rid of this Cardspace option and User takes me nowhere. Who's got control of my Control Panel/Computer and what do I do? I'm desperate as sometimes I like to do things that require me to change user accounts from Admin. to Limited, etc. I'm running XP-SP 3 Pro. Help!

Black Screen Problem after start up, Please Help!

Hi there,

Well my computers broken. i have Windows xp. So i start it up and everything looks normal, it goes onto the windows loading screen and the loading bar moves as normal but then gets a bit jerky near the end and then after that, it just goes to a plain black screen with just my cursor showing (which i can move).

Ive tried Safe mode ive tried last known configuration ive tried ctrl alt del and still nothing... ive even left it on through the night after being told that windows can sometimes fix the problem itself. Ive tried switching it off at the wall aswell.

What i think could have caused this problem is what i did the night before:

I tried to download an old game off the internet (Carnivores 2) site looked fine an not dodgey at all. When i clicked open file nothing seemed to happen so i got worried and tried to shut it down (i panicked and thought if i turned the computer off a virus couldnt get in :P) Im not very computer smart.... anyway so i told the computer to shut down but it wasnt so i held the power button down for 10 secs (done it before and its been fine) then i tried to start it up again and got the black screen with the cursor :(.

Very sorry for the long post but i felt i needed to explain it well so i could get help on it. Please ANY feedback at what might help would be very appreciated. If i dont get this problem fixed before my dad gets home hes gonna kill me!:S

I know that there are countless threads already on this, but even after trying all those suggestions I still can't seem to resolve the issue.

I was installing BitDefender and had to restart the computer. The computer would boot up and seem to be loading Windows, but then it just goes blank, and the keyboard and the mouse don't seem to be getting power either.

I've tried booting into the last good known configuration and that does the same thing as above.
Booting into Safe Mode gives me the BSOD:

The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc00000139 (0x0000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

I've tried to repair Windows XP..but the computer won't boot from the CD..and I've checked the BIOS and that all seems to be fine It's setup to book from CD-ROM first, but it's not..

I don't know what else to do and would appreciate any help I could get.

Lost Internet

Excuse my ignorance but I will explain my problem, I cannot seem to get my windows internet to go. My outlook express works fine, as long as I do not try to open a web page with it, I can get onto the internet via firefox, which is how I am able to talk to you now. I tried the cmd thing on the "run as" option but it just opens a black blank page and immediatly closes again. In fact that is what the internet page does as well, eventually the page opens which is blank then closes after half a second. I have not downloaded any up grades or anything else (consiously) , I have tried a system restore which may get the internet to work once or twice but no more and I have carried out virus scans to which the last one was clean,
Any ideas in as plain english as you can manage please I am not the most computer literate of people

Blue screen ?????

Hi,

I have an XP machine and it boots up to just before the Password Screen into windows and displays the blue screen. Just a blue screen, nothing else, and the machine is completly unresponsive.

I have tried to enter Windows in safe mode but again, it to just opens the safe mode screen, black with 4 safe mode words at each corner of the screen.

Can somebody give me some useful advice on what to do from here?

dvd drives

my computer will pick up the dvd drives, but no matter what i put in the dvd drives, it will not read or play anything...

trying to upgrade an windows xp box w/Outlook and keep getting error 1327, phantom h: drive. Went on line to MS and folloed instructions to change registrey, only problem is work and works suite do not appear in the registry? Thank you!

Replacing an SBS Server with a non-SBS Server

We have an SBS Server as PDC, exchange server & SQL server. It is old and in need of upgrading. We have an office nearing the limit of SBS.

So, we bought a new non-SBS server as well as exchange & SQL. Now the question is how to best go about replacing the old server with the new server.

Both boxes are running 2003 - I know it is getting old, but the software they run doesn't support anything better. Besides, we have the license to upgrade to 08 at our convenience.

Is it as simple as:
- adding the new server as a DC
- moving the FSMO roles
- removing the SBS box
- promoting the new box and
- cleaning the meta data?

My desktop is Blank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there,
I have windows XP.I tried to find this channel for movies but some unknown site came up,i tried closing it but it was taking long so tried to close it using taskmanager.suddenly it closed.I logged off and switchd off my laptop and now everytime i try to switch it on; it asks for my password as usual and then shows the windows XP screen after that there is a plain blank blue desktop.absolutly nothing else.once i pressed this f2 option but don't know what i am supposed to do from there.I did press set default settings.no luck:-((
