VMWare: Can't mount the physical CDROM

Hi,

I'm running Fedora core 8 on my XP machine using VMWare. Now I have a DVD which I must run on the linux window. When I insert the CD, the only CD recognized by linux is the iso file which is used in the installation of linux. The CD which I inserted is not being recognized. :confused:

Can anyone help me sort out this problem so that I can access my CD from linux ?

Installing bvv visualizer

I have a tarball which I'm unable to install on my linux machine.

Hi guys,

Could someone help me out on how to install LAMP on Edubuntun Dapper Drake.

I've manage to find some tutorials but its pretty hard to understand, see, Im just a beginner on linux platform so I really need someones help to setup a LAMP server on my Edubuntu Machine.

If someone could provide me with the best example it would be much appreciated and also please provide me comments.

help would be appreciated as it is no longer a dual boot and it is just ubuntu hardy heron

Hi, i'm building a Linux system from scratch. My goal is to make it into a Security & Forensics LiveCD. (Something like a simple Backtrack). Now i just wondered if you know of any good security, forensics, networking (or any other relevant) app/package that you would like to see in on a system like this.

scanf returning EINTR error

i am programming in language c on linux platform .After including one particular function my scanf start returning value -1 and error no is 4(EINTR) . And after first time taking input from user it runs correctly and then it starts taking a default value which u have entered on first in put and runs a infinite loop.

Create a suppression script

Hello. I have 2 files which, and i want to supress one file against another. for example.

File 1 - suplist.txt
hello123
chris635
mike822

I then have another file

File2 - checklist.txt
stephen929
mike822
hiop191

I can see that mike 822 appears in the suppression list so i do not want this name in my file.

This is what i have so far, it works, but takes hours to run against a suppression with 1,000,000 records in

while read NAME

do

    grep $NAME suplist.txt > file

    wc=`wc -l < file`

    if [ $WC -eq 0 ]

    then

        echo "Name is not in list...so output"

        echo "$NAME" >> good.list

Cannot reset root password

Hey,

I have been trying to reset the root password for a unix system. The shadow file has full rw-rw-rw permissions, however when I force write the save (in vi editor) it says it cannot do it because its a "Read-only filesystem". Is there another way around this?

setuid problem

Hi,

I have one application with 'normal' user privileges. This application runs another one which has 4755 permissions. Does this mean that the second application will run as root???
I believe not... The second application tries to setuid(0) and fails.
How to tackle this problem so I can run second application with root privileges from first no-root application???

Service Processor

I am receiving messages from HP-UX Server
"The operating system is unable to communicate with the service processor.

The support bus which connects the system processors, the service processor and the Power Monitor or Platform Monitor may have become hung ". How to check the service processor firmware revision?
