Hi all

from this post you will soon realise that I am very inexperienced with regards to Networking. So any easy to undestand and help given would be much appreciated.

At the moment I have cable Internet via NTL in the UK with a DSL modem and wireless router (Belkin). I have a laptop which I use to access the internet by wireless. I have 2 seperate USB external hard drives (Freecom) to back up my valuable data from my laptop.

What I would like to do is the following:

Be able to back up my data wirelessly from my laptop (fed up with having to keep getting back up drives out of cupboard and plug into laptop)

Access a printer wirelessly without having to buy a wireless printer I have a canon HL 1530D
(fed up with having to keep getting printer out of cupboard and plug into laptop)

Ideally what hardware could I plug into my belkin router (or do I have to buy another router also)

Ideally I would like the printer in a bedroom
The hardware (back up device etc) being plugged into the router in another room
I would not be able to connect the router to a printer by wire but the hard drive device etc
could be (lack of space)

I have seen on the internet that you can buy devices that you can use the house wiring as a network could this work if so how?

Would I need a PC plugged into router to be able to do?

If this is not clear please let me know.

Thanks for any help

Hi all, I am new here and I having a real problem with my internet connection. We have two computers connected to the internet in our house through one router with an Ethernet switch. My brothers computer works fine and he can view all websites etc and all is well, however my computer has problems viewing 99% on websites.

I have ruled out the possibility of it being a fault with the actual ethernet connection since I tried his CPU box on my ethernet cable and it works fine. Something is obviously wrong with my box that is causing these problems. I would appreciate any help on how I can fix these problems. I have uninstalled AVG completely and disables windows firewall and I still have the same problem. Please do keep in mind that I can visit a few websites with no problem such as GMAIL TRADEME.CO.NZ google DANIWEB etc but cannot visit almost 99% of websites on the internet.

Any help will be great.

Hi,
I not sure where to look for information about wireless systems that have some kind of limited use session token/ability. We have a conference room where we host large meetings with people fly in from around the world to participate. Currently we have no wireless capabilities and we would like to add some.

We setup a simple Netgear wireless router, used WPA2 and ran it through a VMwared firewall. It worked like a charm. However if this solution was to become permanent my boss wants MAC address filtering. The problem is I really don't want to be landed with the extra job of entering everyone's MAC for each confrence.

While I have never used them I believe that some internet cafes have a system that prints a registration number user can enter to gain access to the network for a limited time.

Does anyone know what these systems are called and how much they cost etc.

Thanks for any advice.

Is there a simple bandwidth monitor that I can use that'll tell me how much bandwidth i use every day (or month). Better yet, one that can go in my router and see how much bandwidth is used by all pc's combined. Thanks in advance for your help.
