Not sure if this has been mentioned before.

One thing that irritated me for a while was seeing '1 hour ago' '2 hours ago' and such on posts. I like seeing the actual Date/Times, but maybe that's just me :)

I have had a look in the CP today and found the settings to change this, my query is on the naming of the options..
It appears that the 'Normal' setting will show a standard date/time of the post; such as 'Oct 27th, 2009, 06:00', 'Yesterday/Today' will do what it says, and 'Detailed' will show the '1 hour ago' '2 hours ago' and such.

Personally, I would expect the results of the Normal and Detailed to be reversed, to me, detailed means more information, which would be the actual timestamp, not just 1 hour ago :)

Just my thoughts

Am brand new joinee to this site. I found everything in this site but i couldn't find the one am searching for. There is no forum for the Subjects which deals with Infrastructure Management....

I could not find any forum here , which speaks about Storage management, Backup/Restore, Monitoring tool management, Spy management...... etc....

Why these tools are not having the importance in the sites.... Are they bad (or) are they are worst tools in the industry.....

Dear Dani,
Requesting you to please start one forum which promotes Infrastructure management tools...

Kind Regards
If you've been part of the site longer, you're opinion matters more than everybody else's? Why? If I think something has been helpful, I can give a little rep, but if AncientDragon thinks its helpful, he can give a whole ton of rep because apparently, he knows better than me. And then there's the issue of High rep users being scared to vote because they have so much influence...

(This is a little strong worded and I mean no offense at all, Daniweb is an awesome site, it was just to help get the point across. :D )

Everyone has way less than before, except for newbies, who appear to have the same. I remember Ancient Dragon starting a thread requesting a way that he could possibly neg rep someone without placing them in an eternal red zone. Makes sense. Everyone deserves to make a mistake and learn from it without damning them to the Scarlett Red rep forever. Someone on that thread, can't remember who, suggested giving the person the ability of giving negative points UP TO their full rep power (i.e. Ancient Dragon could give -1, -2, -3 points, ..., up to -30 or whatever). I kind of like that idea. Some posts (i.e. racist posts, cross posting for the twelfth time, no code tags for the 25th time, etc.) deserve a real blast and some deserve a fairly minor rebuke.

Anyway, just wondering why the rep power got adjusted for everyone all of a sudden. If it's because people who had a lot of it wanted the ability to rebuke someone without destroying them, that suggestion would solve that.

Hello, as the title suggests I want to remove the code I supplied in posts made in a thread I started in the C forum. The reason I want to do this is because the program I wrote is for an assignment due next week. I know other students in my class use google to search for code to use on assignments, so when they search for this program they will be taken directly to my program. I dont want any of the other students to copy my code. It wont look good if the whole class turns in the same exact program ;) .
So is it possible for one of the mods or Dani to remove my code from the thread. You can replace in two weeks if you want. If it is possible, I will mark the thread solved so no one tries to answer a thread with no code ;) .
Here is the thread I want snipped.

How does one ask a question on DaniWeb?
I'll ask here for lack of knowledge on where to find the proper place.
I volunteer at a local library and try to help them keep their computers and network up. The library has hired two "professional
network" people that resulted in no solution, so I will try.
Since I'm somewhat new to networking and servers, I ask,"do
in house Windows servers cache home pages for display when clients open Internet Explorer, which has the URL of the out of state server set as the preferred home page?
All computers have IE set to empty temporary files upon closing, the disk space to use for cache is set to 8MB, the number of days to keep history is zero. All computers have DeepFreeze installed, updated and operational, which should have no bearing on the problem.
Recently they changed to larger capacity servers. The new servers were "set up" by a corporation and shipped in for the library. There seems to be a problem in the way whoever set them up did their configuration.
There are basically two systems, one is the card catalog
and in-house business system. The other is for the patrons to
use the internet.
The computers assigned to the card catalog/in-house system
can display the current months home page (hosted in a different city).
The computers assigned to the patron system can only display last months (incorrect) home page.
All patron computers have Windows XP. Group Policy in all patron computers is the same. It doesn't matter how group policy is set. With nothing "enabled", the patron computers still display the incorrect home page.
Will different versions of Java cause this? Will different versions of Windows XP cause this? (All computers are set to update
automatically). All computers are behind a Watchguard Firebox. All
computers have an Antivirus program which is updated daily.

Thank you for a response.

Respectfully,
Jim

:icon_eek: Strange things have been happening lately.
1. Visited threads are still marked as unread ?
2. Even though I made the last post in this thread, php forum doesn't say so.
I have attached the screenshots of the forum and the thread.

One more bug. The url, http://www.daniweb.com/forums/online.php doesn't serve its purpose. When I click this url, all I get is

Quote:

  1 members and 0 guests
Most users ever online was 9355, Jun 1st, 2009 at 8:20 pm.
Last Activity User Name Reverse Sort Order Location
1 Minute Ago nav33n*
Viewing Who's Online

Screenshot attached.
And,
When I double click on the folder icon which on hover says, "Double-click this icon to mark this forum and its contents as read", it makes all the thread in the forum 'read' for time being. When I reload the page, some threads are back to 'unread' status again.

I have checked all these 'errors' couple of times just to make sure I wasn't dreaming (its 2 in the morning) :).

Edit: What happened to my attachments ? :-O

    <fieldset class="fieldset"> <legend>Attached Images</legend>

error1.jpg (185.5 KB)

error2.jpg (259.3 KB)

online_bug.jpg (217.1 KB)

error3.jpg (270.6 KB)

error4.jpg (274.8 KB)

</fieldset>

Hi all,

I have a suggestion (not sure if it has already been discussed).

In the profile, at the community tab, we have, for example,

Code Snippets: 10

Hi all,

I have a suggestion (not sure if it has already been discussed).

In the profile, at the community tab, we have, for example,

Quote:

  Code Snippets: 10

If this number 10 is made a href linking to all the code snippets posted by that particular user, it would be great.
At present, to find a code snippet posted by a user, we have to go to statistics tab, click on Find all threads started by xyz , then look for "code snippet".
This is like searching for a needle in the haystack if the user has created a lot of threads (okay, I'm exaggerating ;)).

Cheers,

Overall Post Quality Score: What is it? It has appeared on my control-panel somewhere in the last few days ;)

Yesterday I had 72% but today I have 97%. What is this magic number and how is it calculated?

Can you put a time limit on voting, such as when a time expires then no more votes are possible? Six months seems a reasonable limit. I have seen some of my very very old posts (2-4 years) with votes. The same for applying rep should also apply.

Here (http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet227078.html)

It is displaying my name as it appears in my profile as opposed to my DaniWeb screen name. Is that a bug or is it meant to do that?

Seriously though, when tags initially rolled, individual "tags" were separated by a comma, rather than by a space (although commas still seem to work as well). The problem is that this updated format disallows a two-word tag, such as "Windows 7" - the space btwn the two creates two individual tags... the original tags rollout had no such issues.

Is there a reason for the changes, or is it possible to go back to the original tag format?
