Hey All! Gonna give a quick overview of my situation and I'm looking for some advice on re-entering the IT field.

I graduated from PC Age/Internetworking Computer Education in 2001. I completed MCP/MCSE and had some low-level Cisco education as well. I received a paid internship at Time, Inc in NYC which led to a consultant position in the Systems Engineering/Support bracket. Unfortunately, with the 9/11 my ability to find growth in the field left me stagnant. I'm an extreme go-getter. High-intensity, self-motivated guy. Very strong leadership skills. To throw the whole situation in a loop, at the same my band, which was a huge hobby of mine, ended up receiving a fairly large record contract. Given the situation with my career, I felt it was a now or never opportunity to pursue the dream. I ended up selling almost 50,000 records, landing a spot on MTV2's Extreme Rock show, playing the Vans Warped Tour 2 years in a row, and traveling the country playing countless shows. I've been a songwriter/musician my whole life, and this opportunity was too big of an experience to pass. At 28 I cashed it in to pursue my career. The exact same month, I was a offered a position to run the local restaurant/grill that I had been working at when I was off tour. I took the job and ran with it. I am extremely business savy, solid negotiator and the restaurant business really helped me get back on my feet. Unfortunately, I have higher aspirations, and that has led me here. I want to get back into the field. I want to finish my college degree at the same time, and I'm looking for some opinions. I can cut my pay to a realistic $55,000/yr outside NYC, or $60,000/yr in NYC. I will grow from there. I'm not a paycheck guy. I love to work. Of course I have to re-adapt to current technologies, which will take some time, but I'm really not worried. I loved working with hardware/support. I worked in the Network Operations Center, racking and configuring servers/operating systems. I see myself in project management and continuing to move forward. I don't wait for things happen. I get them myself.

Can anyone offer me some opinions/advice. What do you think of my situation? Where would you start. Like I said, I'm ready to get this ball rolling. I miss my passion for technology so much, and I want to find a company that will find value in my passion/work ethic as a leader. One that will work with me to harness my skillset and help me grow. What do you all think?

Thanks in advance for you opinion!

i am 20th year old, working as a freelance web developer, i am from pakistan, i had done my secondary education 3 years ago, then i wasted rest years due to cysts under my both armpit, and did not complete my college, i did 1 year diploma from APTECH COMPUTER EDUCATION in Information System Management with VB, JAVA, SQL SERVER and little Web designing. i did this diploma 2 year ago, then i took some break, then i started learning web development with xhtml/css and php/mysql now AJAX myself, no teacher taught me these technologies, i did them myself, but not yet expert :) but i am sure that i am good at these languages.

Now i am learning them deeply also working on some freelance web projects, and i am offering web designing and development services, and my all clients are happy with me because i made them happy with my efforts, even some of them are not happy with their other programmers but they are happy and satisfy with me..

Now let me explain you my problem, my 1st problem is this that i did not complete my academic education and thats why i am scared about my future, i don't really want to do a job, but some people told me that my freelance experience will not be count if i apply for good job it is correct? i wanted to get admission in BS, but without my Higher Education i cant get admission there, but i don't want to waste more time on completing my college, is academic qualification more important then experience in Our field? please tell me what should i do?

should i do college and then BS?
Should i do some job for experience or stick with my freelance web business?
will i need academic qualification in future?

without taking any web development class i did several medium size projects, here you can see a sample i did for my client : www.css2site.com

i am waiting for your replies
Thanks

I was wondering which city in Europe you think is the best to work in IT
I mean the city where is easier to find a job or start up a new business.
London or Dublin seem quite established for example, but Moscow or Prague seem more exciting with new companies springing up.
Thanks

An old friend of my mom from her University days tells me about a job she thinks I could perform because I'm in the IT field.

Description of the Job

My mom's friend ( let's call her Sara ), Sara, is starting a new business she's has wanted to do for many years. She told me it's an administrative position. This person is responsible for putting the website "out there" on the Internet, attracting customers from my understanding. The main purpose of the website is to act as an interface between the customers and suppliers. She talked about marketing on Facebook and about using Blogs on the website. One of my roles involves carefully crafting and producing the content for the website. Sara mentioned a "sharp young mind a few times".

Now to me

I feel I am capable of fulfilling all her requirements. I know how to create and maintain a website and I will be familiarizing myself with CMS over the coming days. I've never held a job in the IT field before so I'm lacking in experience but I can teach myself quickly. Tonight I'm going to download Drupal just to familiarize myself with CMS. This is the most I believe I can do because she's going to use specialized software.

Based on the description above, what do you think my employers is really looking for?

What job title does the position fall under?

What questions should I ask her when I meet her?

What questions is she likely to ask me?

Please, if you can, recommend some books that will help me to get the job done.

Hi all,
I just wanted to introduce myself to the community. My Name is Dee Brat.
I have been working within the copier industry for 27 years now. Started off in the US Navy with my first training school in July of 1981. Uncle Sam sent me to Xerox to train me on the 7000. An antiquated piece of equipment that used compressor air suction for their paper feed system. (similar to offset press operations) Worked very well for the era. The machine was 60 copies a minute(greased lightning back in the day). It also had a counting system that used gas tubes that would light up neon numbers for the count down to completed copy jobs. no more than 100 sets at a time. The collator was a nightmare. Solenoids open the pathway that channeled paper from bin to bin. Including the 50 bin collator the machine was about 8 feet in length.

After leaving the USN I worked for several different dealerships repairing just about everything that makes a copy. I first got into Ethernet Networking back in 1990 using 10 base 2 technology for Canon's Color Laser Copiers. Eventually went into my own business selling and servicing and got into troubleshooting print networking issues which lead to some PC repair and software and virus removal all of which is OJT. I have found that I have a need to expand my horizons to include some real training.

Any suggestions where I should start. I was contemplating A+ certification. But I would like some familiarity input so that I don't start my training by spinning my wheels.

Thanks in advance

it's me :) Dee
