I'm not sure I have a very high GA IQ yet. I can certainly get at the primary things I need. But you can really do a lot with this information by building custom reports.

We don't buy links. Too many other methods to achieve them. But purchased links certainly CAN add value and improve your SERPs and pagerank. I just feel like we get better bang for the buck elsewhere.

Basic strategy is this.

Build a great site with great content.
Do your keyword research and litter in your keywords to your site.
Build backlinks with these keywords as the anchor text.

And...

I would assume (but I don't know this for sure) that good keywords in the alt text for the image might play a part in how much link juice gets passed along with the link. Does anybody know for sure?

My experience is that google likes both old links and new links. We've lost some of our old links, and it's hurt our SERPs, even though we've also been adding new links in there place.

People who focus on pagerank are missing the boat. We've got a higher pagerank than several of our competitors, yet they're spanking us in SERPs and traffic. But not for long :)

It's time consuming, but there are better ways to build your inbound link profile than buying links from link brokers.

Lots of traffic is good, but you want quality traffic. Better to have less traffic that converts better, than a ton of traffic that doesn't convert.

Send out press releases to both local media and online pr sites. Some of the good ones cost some money, but good value.
