I agree 100 % Catweazle, there is no need to throw third party software into this. A clean install of Windows Xp following the instructions provided here is the better solution. Just my 2 ¢

I agree 100 % why go through all of the hassle of trying to configure ICS? Go get a cheap DHCP/NAT enabled router. Allot easier to get the network operating that way. Just my 2 ¢

Any IDE hard drive should work just fine, your BIOS may or may not recognize a hard drive that large though. How old is the computer?
