are you having problems with Linux too? also when you load the windows xp dsik after the main fills are loaded you want to hit r to goto the recovery console. do you have an oringinal windows xp disk?

if you have a windows xp disk you can run recovery console and fix the problem by using chkdsk -r http://commandwindows.com/index.html

your right, i wasnt thinking....lol . the other thing he could try is to insert the xp disk and reinstall windows from the desk top but install as a upgrade. this can also fix the corrupt files.

I think you need to try this------>SFC /SCANNOW. The main reason for using this utility is when you suspect there may be a problem with a Windows XP system file.

you don't need to buy a new computer, if it doesnt work you can always reinstall windows. this will work if it is software related, but if its hardware then putting a new ethernet card should work...
