Possibly; it would depend on the source of the addon.

I have only ever used addons from mozilla.org (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) after reading the reviews, and so far so good.

Try going to Tools(in Firefox) > Options> Content tab; At the bottom you should see Languages, click on the 'Choose' button and select French and Remove.

I too have had similar problems; Flash player seemed to be the culprit in my case. I now find that FFv3.08 (and Flash 10.0r22) is much more stable.
