Is it a cd-r or cd-rw? You are trying to burn a disc? If so, try to insert another cd in. You might have a bad cd.

If he has USB 2, it would be better because it has better transfer rate than Firewire.

Yes you can!!!

You would need to buy a hard drive enclosure to install your drive in. Then you plug it to your PC via USB. It is preferable if you have USB 2.0 for better data trandfer rate.

Knowing the brand wouldnt really make a difference. Just contact the company that made it and they should make a trade. It happened several times to a friend of mine.

If im not mistaken, only Maxtor makes ATA133 and I think it works with ATA100 but not sure cuz I never had one.

Yeah! If you have an ATA100 hard drive, it use the ATA100 standards for any system... You want a HP hard drive?

If you already own the IDE HDD, there is no use of buying the SATA yet. Especially if you have an older mobo.

There arent many makes of Drives. Go for Maxtor or Western Digital.
If you go with Maxtor, buy a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 or Maxtor DiamondMax 10.
They are also the same price. I bought SATA drive...

I dont remember if it was dvd-r or dvd+r, but one of them used to be better for video and the other for data. I dont think it is the case today. I use both kind for any sort of jobs and havent had...
