I prefer Dreamweaver, but since you cannot afford it, you might want to try http://www.nvu.com/. I've never used it, but have heard it's a decent alternative and open-source.

Good ideas. Some things I noticed that might help. The newsfeeds are a nice feature, but some of the vids take too long to load and the long ads that accompany them are distracting.
