try this:

Boot to DOS
Put the Windows ME disk in the cd drive
goto cd rom drive (ie d: )
Type:
cd win9x
Extract /a *.cab rundll32.exe /l c:\Windows

Hopefully that will work.

I came across this demo of MAXX2 that I used to play under windows 95. I went to install it and it said it needed directX 5. I'm running 7. Is there any way around this? I don't play any other games...

if you install windows first then linux usually detects it and sets up its own multiboot environment - that's the case for Red Hat Linux 9 in any case. Admittedly it calls it DOS, but it's easy...

drive c of the slave should have become drive d on your machine with both connected properly.

personally I'd use a boot disk to get a dos prompt, run fdisk, wipe the drive and start again. Assuming you have a normal windows disk as well as the upgrade.
