The error is probably due to a) your soundcard not being recognized, or b) your soundcard does not support sound mixing and another program is using your sound card.

yeah when I was installing ubuntu on my parents computer the wireless card refused to actually work. Try using wifi-radar. After a few tries it should start working...(or at least it started working...
