It appears to also be stable under darwinports as well, I didn't seem to have any issues installing it on an Intel MacBook Pro.

I get the Error Status 1 with gnome as well but kde installed just fine for me. I would say definately re-install x11 & you may even consider installing it from a package installer like Pacifist so...
