The new avg (8.5) has most of this, but it has slown my computer down enormously.

Try loading 'last known working configuration' in you boot menu.
If that doesn't work you could try downloading puppy-linux-live-cd and boot that. Then download the file and store it somewhere....

Well it could be a few things.
-Your lancard is set to a manual IP-adress so it doesn't get an adress from DHCP
-Your card is defect
-Something went wrong with the drivers

Just leave the corrupted drive in the PC where it belongs and put in the winXP CD. Change the bootorder so that CD-ROM is primary bootdevice.
Wait for WINXP setup.
Choose Repair.

You could run chkdsk to, well, check your disk. Start -> run " chkdsk /F /R "
It will ask if you want to schedule chkdsk after reboot, answer Yes.

It could be that it's not the DirectX that's the problem, but your videocard. My 'old' GeForce 4 doesn't support pixelshading, so I think your GeForce3 (?) doesn't either. This could be the reason...
