Well that did nothing, I am no worse off but not ahead,I have a good data backup for the one drive, I think I will just let Acronis "add" this drive and reinstall.

sure does,you logon from their website,look for the pc that has the logmein software on it,there you are.
It works fairly well,I have used it.

when you say it switches from battery to ac it tells you this how? light on case?didthis lappy run ok recently?

You plugged a hdd in that had xp on it and tried to boot it up?
Did you run repair on the OS first?
