What is the issue that you're currently having? As an ATX reset is only really used to trouble shoot power issues.

That's similar to a ATX reset, but for that you would take out all power sources (cable, battery etc) then hold the power button for 30 seconds.

This should solve the majority of power problems.

Would usually boot ok, just won't remember anything. Data & Time for example.

Most Motherboards, have a CMOS battery that you can replace. I recently rebuilt a Laititude D600 and was nice and easy...

In theory yes, but you'll usually get something - just won't display perfectly or correctly in most instances until the drivers have been installed.

Sometimes if you get a beep (this will quite often come from inside not speakers) will indicate a memory problem - had this recently with a customers machine.

weird, i have been having a similar problem with my acer 3610, and the base is very hot when it happens, had the same problem with a tosiba equim, both new models though, any ideas?
