i believe that formatting is the best solution in solving OS problems, it's not the only solution though. But I only take reformatting into consideratoin when everything else fails. just my 2c.

How much space does RH9 need for installation? will 5Gigs of disk space do? i was thinking of repartitioning my 10G HDD into 2 5Gigs, one for windows and the other for linux... any suggestions?

yes, bios can detect it.. the hdd is fine, but the data is all gone... that's where my problem is. i can reformat the drive, but i need the data... im not sure if there's sumthin i can do to recover...

But what error code could possibly be worse than a bad sector? you don't get error codes for bad sectors? maybe you should try getting it replaced anyway. If they won't replace it then the warranty's...

It could be the CD-R! Sometimes, there are blank CDs that have a maximum write limit... I once bought some, unintentionally, coz they're cheaper... most of the time, the max write speed is written on...

I once used an old yamaha CD-RW drive with Nero Burning ROM. It wont detect the CD-RW Drive. It only works on Adaptec's EZ cd creator. maybe you're having the same problem that i had years ago.
