Do you have an nForce northbridge and southbridge with MCP? The driver's from nvidia are known to cause this error. Uninstalling the networking drivers, most especially the network manager can solve...

What kind of RAM is installed in it? If it's running PC100 that's definitely gonna hurt speed. Look at upgrading the RAM. Another thing could be the temps, see if it's running hot.

Your gonna need someone who knows what their doing. There's going to be some disassembling done if you want that password gone. Unless you got experience with taking apart laptops I wouldn't suggest...
