i really don't know why your mic isn't working, it couldn't be the drivers, maybe it's to close to the speakers? that's what happened to me once. and i don't know why skype doesn't work.

yeah, i mean six years old, that's old, buy a new one, i recommend a logitech web cam.

it's a hardware issue, could be a bad data cable, or it could be a defective drive.

is it laser or wheel? if it's wheel you can try to clean it, maybe that's help.

plug in the camera, ignore the add new hardware crap and install the software that came with the cam. restart but leave the camera on the same port.
