By minimum, they mean able to operate (which includes lagginess). However, the 'optimal' size far exceeds that.

When you go to Add/Remove Programs, how many different Javas are found? Be sure to uninstall the older programs.

Also, be sure the latest Java is installed.

Let's try this.

Go to Run (start> run)

Type in 'Msconfig'. (without '')

Go to Boot.ini.

There should be 2 OSs listed. See if it will let you delete 1 entry.

Spyware is a very valid possiblity, although I wouldn't reccomend Adaware.

1) Sadly, the uninstallation of NIS is a very tricky process (they do this so ya don't uninstall it ;).) My recomendation would be to reinstall the software, and then go to...

...Ehhhh, I would strongly recommend reinstalling SP2, as your computer is incredibly vulnerable now from internet attacks. AVs and firewalls won't protect ya from these.

You cannot run Defender x86 on a 64 bit processor. ;)

2) I would try a complete reformat, and then activeate after the reformat.

Hmm....this really is a longshot, but have you tried contacting Dell. Not usually, but they help sometimes.

Several things.

1) Be sure to have ActiveX enabled when doing visiting the site.

2) possibly turn off any AVs or firewalls when updating.

The best way I can see doing this is to burn them all on a CD(s). If this isn't an option, a flash drive is also a possiblity.
