Could be a CPU socket w/bad solder joints from overheating.. (Prevelent on the Athlon models). Or leaky diodes on the supply rails to the CPU.

Shutdowns on 700 series presarios are a common problem. Thermal transfer pad would be the first place to l;ook.. Check to see if its shorting atop the CPU. Then well work on getting it booted...

Try the inverter before screen replacement. If the backlight tube is bad We can replace these alot cheaper than buying a new screen.
