First I would advise you to have a unique numerical primary key , that's usually the easiest way to return a record with some particular number.

So the conclusion is they do work and they do speed up the download process. :)

I've tried ReGet, FlashGet. Currently I am using
Internet Download Accelerator (http://www.westbyte.com/ida/)

if that's an LCD monitor, you've probably set the resolution too high :) Try booting in a safe mode - press F5(or F8 - i am not sure) right before the load screen goes.
