I used a 302 redirect to redirect a page that was being hit by digg.com to a static version of the same page so it didn't query my database.

Just remember that search engines don't read Javascript. So any links that are generated with Javascript won't be followed by a search engine.

4 letter cut off is a good rule of thumb. Search for a general list of "stop words" and that will give you an idea of what not to include

I vote title tag as well. A well formed title tag will help you in Search Engines, especially Yahoo and MSN, plus it will be enticing for users to click on once they find you in the SERPs.

I don't think they allow their directory listings to be downloaded like DMOZ so I would imagine you would only be purchasing a link in Yahoo! without a chance of others giving you a link through DMOZ...
