try installing a separate NIC, if it works then it is probably the problem. you can always disable an onboard NIC

It's most probably a problem with your phone line. Try and contact your telephone operator and ask them about modem connection speeds, but try and ask your Internet provider first if it's a problem...

you can try using a bnc connector instead of the rg45's. you can make it a linear network, making you share the internet connection.
