ok hope you solve it, i had oveheating when burning dvds and ended up being fan cooling pipes (laptop) had a small clump of lint blocking one of them, so simple but hard to find.
keep searching...

Have a friends toshiba sat. laptop that finds wireless router but gets stuck displaying acquiring ip address.
matched most settings against my laptop all look the same.
Took it home and it finds...

just a thought if you haven't all ready checked, re-check the chip and if seating is ok and thermal paste is ok.

I have a Toshiba Satelite A200 running vista Home.P.which had same problem with synaptics touchpad not working problem, was Fn + F9.
In this case if you hold down the Fn key Fn function icon shadows...
