i am pretty sure that this is impossible to do in fireworks with the preset filters. making that metal texture requires filter unique to photoshop i am not sure if they make a plugin for fireworks...

i dont think you can create 3d shapes using powerpoint.

when you create a new document there is a selection "Color Mode" you probably have it set to "Grayscale" so make the drop down list come down and then select "RGB color" and that should do the trick

That seems a little more complicated compared to alias wavefront's maya unlimited. It may cost money but (bittorrent hint hint) it was used on things like the lord of the rings, and some video games.
