just to end this thread i started:

turns out the 20 GB seagate HD I got was knackered. Oh Well.

I got a 2nd hand 80 GB seagate one off Ebay, and I'm now happy as a bunny rabbit with a carrot :D...

I actually used the Crucial system scan to get the memory part no., and bought it 2nd hand on Ebay....

another question: does the fact that I am restricted to having memory of 32M x 8 by the Motherboard mean that I can only use up to 256 MB Ram sticks on my system such as stick below:?
