Take out drive put it in another machine and see if it will boot.

Hmm not sure if it's easy for windows. Linux would be another matter as I'm sure you already know.

Seriously, if you are using a big microsoft products i.e, office, outlook, autocad etc, just fire them off from the msi installers and call the relevant switches.

It really is that simple.

control panel > edit option > disable intellitext

For other you may need to disable javascript. But that may have bad affect on navigation.

The "start" keyword is the answer to your problem. That should spawn two processes at the same time.

Could be any number of problems. Most likely, the shutting down of your monitor is due to the shutting down of the pc. So your monitor should be fine.

You need the office xp cd. If you are just talking about office files, you can just save those files to usb or cd.

The actual office program you need a cd.

This doesn't sound like malware, because after a reformat that should have got rid of it, if any malware was there. It could be an issue with over heating.

As a failsafe the system shuts itself...

When you say under the recycle bin, do you mean they are the recycle bin icon.

In xp, if you right click on the icon there is an option to restore default icon. Does such a thing exist in 2000?
