Only thing I can suggest is to reset the bios by removing the cmos battery on the motherboard for a couple of minutes before re-fitting it. See if it works.
Repair the OS with your installation CD.

It has actually been postulated that (some) AV companies create viri in order to sell their product.
It's a crock that the AV programs attack legitimate software though.

I think a few mobo's can do it, but it depends on the bios version. Later ones tend to lock that option out.

The only way I think you can save your files is by removing the HD and connecting it to another pc and copy the files over.
The virus you have calls for a reformat. There is no other guaranteed way...

Try a system repair. Go into the bios and set it to boot from CD. Insert the XP CD and reboot. Choose the repair option when presented.

Looks like you've cleaned that up. I would suggest that you get the latest service pack too, which is SP4. Go to M$ update & get all the crucial updates.
