I agree! you might've accidentally touched something inside your PC. most of the time it's the video card but just to be sure reseat other cables as well, and all those other stuff you have inside...

does the computer perform it's POST and stops at bootup? or is the monitor just simply dead when you turn it on? I agree with alex, it'd be the video card. unplug all of your USB devices and start it...

KT is correct, the quicklaunch toolbar is no different from your icons on the desktop. It's more like a smaller version of the start menu.

where are you from anyway? MAD_DOG is right, if there's anybody who's near you might be able to walk you through using the phone. You did not wast money on the computer, you're just not doing it...

If I was to purchase a pc and got the same problem, i'd probably just reformat the whole thing and start with a fresh install of my own choice of OS. that's only if it was me...
