To be honest, I've never used fusetalk, or even been on a fusetalk forum. If possible I would try to run with a php/mysql or asp.net/other enterprise db type application :)

Tell your friends, put a link in your sig and find other forums of your intrest and hope it perks people into joining.

vBulletin is not closed source, its visual, you can see, modify, edit the vBulletin code base how you want, but you need to pay for it.

YaBB is perl, which means tons of chmoding and text based files.

Perl is a hell of alot harder to modifiy for someone new. not to mention its a huge server resource compared to a smaller phpbb vB...
