I would, and have advertised my forum (including on DaniWeb :D), and it has definately been worth it. I believe any serious board should consider advertising.

This may seem quite obvious, but couldnt you just use the $250 that would have gone to winniners on advertising?

Give out an RSS feed, then you will get numerous amounts of people coming to you through other sites :)
