Surf on over to http://livepublishing.co.uk/pcexplorer/ and look for *The 100% Unofficial Windows XP Handbook*. I bought it when I first got my laptop, and it really squeezed the learning curve....

As a quick and dirty check, adjust your Internet Settings/Security to the LOWest setting possible, or add the site you're trying to contact to your TRUSTed sites. If you can connect, then you know...
