have you tried using another player aside from media player 11? if have tried using and still having problem..try suggestion of jccaldz, update or reinstall your sound driver.. Good luck :)

some programs might not be compatible with your OS.. like those old apps for win 98 or me may not be compatible with the newer OS..

or some apps are programmed to work on XP and may work with...

if you're using a desktop..make sure that you're heatsink to your processor is properly seated and there's enough thermal compound..and check processor fan also..
