you may want to just disable the message then, it might not be ie7 if you have automatic updates on. if you go into the properties of the connection, at the bottom of the list there is a check box...

a logitech play link or a linksys wireless g game adapter. there are some other third party devices like that that are a bit cheaper than the xbox adapter

in your control panel, in your network connections: you should be able to right click on it and delete it...if its trying to acquire an address, you may need to disable it first.

you might want to try switching ethernet cables just to make sure there is not a short in the cord. its a very bad sign for the router when you get that message hooked to it. your router has not...
