I think phpbb3 is good one. and good for getting started at least

I just installed phpbb3 its cool. I think for getting started like Dani did we can go with phpbb.

I think you need to install a mod for that. by default you will not get any sub forums in phpbb.

try using phplist open source very good. You can set the number of emails you would like to send in one go then it will wait for some time and send next lot.
