What do you mean it's probably always been on ide? For the first years they owned it I was on their machine and it was in raid 1 then and working fine.

I wonder what I could try to see if it is a codec issue?

When the other hdd was out of the computer and running without the raid it did the same thing.

A raid one is a mirror array. What is on one is on the other. A raid 0 you would lose data but not on a raid 1. The new drive is installed and the data has been written to the new drive.

I don't run any of my machines xp, vista ultimate etc. under 2gb of ram. If you do you won't get the best of any machine. Especially for how cheap ram is. I have 4gb in my ultimate machine.
