most pay per click accounts start off with a few winners and a lot of bad bids or terms in them...it is just an issue of learning from the feedback your account gives you.

from what I have seen it is usually better to spend time finding more niche keywords to run on Google and Overture before spending too much money on tier 2 PPC search engines.

the current algorithm often has many sites not ranking for their own names. if that is intentional then Google is being a wee bit hypocritical on the make useful content for the users front.

odds are your base authority level may not be that high if you only have links from a few sites. perhaps building more linkage data from a wide variety of sites will help improve your rankings
