Hi. We just fixed a virus problem with lots of help from the Virus forum. At about the same time the virus hit us, we started seeing the following messages on all profiles except the 'administrator' profile:
RUNDLL
Error loading C:Windows\System32\qfgruyph.dll
The specified module could not be found
and
RUNDLL
Error loading C
ocum~1\email\LOCAL~1\Temp\mljjg.dll
The specified module could not be found
After clicking 'OK' to these dialog boxes, we go on our way without noticing any issues.
How can we make the messages stop appearing, or fix the problem if there is one?
Thanks.

It means that the registry entries relating to these now removed trojan files are still present.
METHOD 1
This has risks if you are not conversant with Regedit and the general principles behinf registry keys. In any case EXPORT the registry (ALL) to a file in case you make a mistake; the registry as is can thus be restored.
You would need to run Regedit and FIND the KEYS containing respectively mljjg.dll and qfgruyph.dll.
When Regedit finds the data values, delete the whole key associated with the value. The value will be in the right hand pane; the key will be a little folder (open) on the left hand pane. Click on that and delete the key if you know what you are doing in the registry - otherwise do method 2.
METHOD 2
Download Advanced Windows Care and run this; it will find orphans in the registry and safely deal with them. This is my preferred method.
You're probably in good shape otherwise.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
I ran AWC v2 and it found lots and lots of stuff, but the same two messages appeared after I rebooted.
So, despite not knowing much about the registry business, I ran regedit, exported the registry, and searched for keys containing the subject strings, but it found nothing ("Finished Searching Through the Registry", but no results that I could see anywhere).
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Go here:
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/U..._Download.html
Download that app and run the clean registry option. Unfortunately, the evaluation version fixes 10 errors at a time. Usually if not run before, you'll have upwards of a few hundred errors. Just browse the results and look for those entries that you specified. Delete those invalid pointers, then you're set to go. Or, open up the registry editor (start menu>run>regedit) then go to Edit>Find then type in those file names. You should easily be able to find those invalid pointers and delete them without little trouble.

If it's not in the registry (AWC would have found it as an orphan, so I doubt if any other program will find it - but I've been wrong before), then there's a program running at boot up that calls for these purged DLLs. This program needs to be removed.
I suggest the following:
1/
Look in each of C:\, C:\Windows, C:\Windows\System32, C:\Program Files
2/
Find andnote any file or folder created around the time of your virus activity. You are interested in files of type DLL, SYS, EXE, INF.
3/
If the file has no signature as to author in Properties (lioke Intel, Microsoft) and also if you can't vouch for the file, rename it to *.jnk (remembering what it was called in case you need to restore it).
4/
You can do this one at a time and re-boot till the problem goes away or if you have clusters of files created within a few seconds of each other or dodgy file names of similar/same size you can treat them as a batch.
5/
A good crsoss-check is to search the registry for each such file or BETTER look in the registry for the RUN key; I find it by searching for RUNONCE and then moving up one key. The nasty thing that's looking for the removed DLLs could be in there and thus running every time you boot.
It takes time to sort these things out and I haven't given much thought to your report that the messages only appear on non-Administrator profiles. Does this mean that a person without Admin status logging in receives this message when the profile is being loaded?

Yes, only when non-Admin profiles are loading do these messages appear. Nothing like this happens when I open my profile (only I have Admin privileges). What's the chance that these are legit DLLs that were erased during the three or four days of trying to fix the virus(es) we had? We scanned and 'repaired' this computer using upwards of 7 or 8 programs over the past few days. Does that sometimes take good registry keys with it, in a baby-with-the-bathwater way?
I just want to be sure we're looking to eliminate bad stuff (instead of restoring good stuff) before I embark on your recommended solution, which, frankly, feels like it's beyond my abilities.
Thanks for your thoughts.

The DLLs you have mentioned are baddies (no longer there, apparently). If you look into some of the Solved threads in the Virus forum, you'll see just those filenames or sorts of mjnnn.dll nonsense filenames.
You can always come back to the forum with questions.
