I am a relatively new Mac user. I have a G5 and it's sick. I can boot and log in then the screen goes black and I get a prompt that says: "Welcome to Darwin". Then a login request. Once I log in I get nothing but garbledegook. How do I get out of this and get back to normal?

Sounds like your OS X installation is broken. I'd recommend reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling OS X.

Depending on which Darwin core you are using you may have to reinstall. Boot from the original cd by holding down the 'c' key until you see the Apple logo. Wait, read the screen!!! it may have the option of installing the OS leaving your profile (programs) intact. I have done it and it works. If it works then do an update on line as the OS without patches is installed.
