System Config corrupt Win 2000

Okay, my sister and I have been trying for the past two days to put XP home on her computer. Because somehow her OS got messed up. I don't know how, I really don't want to know. But we got the XP home CD and tried it out --
Here's where you'd think it would get easier. The Cd-Rom does not work, so we created those 6 startup disks and they finish then it shows UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
Then goes on to say to check the BIOS and change her memory. I'm way to fed up with her and this to type it all out.
So if any of you could help me out of this I will be beyond grateful!

The Cd-Rom does not work!!
did you go into the bios to change the boot order to cdrom first boot !
