GMail is google's new program to offer web-based email. However, it's still in beta, and so you can only register an account with an invitation (which you get from other gmail users). Since it's a brand new program which is supposed to be excellent, and you can still get any name you want (most aren't taken yet), everyone is going crazy over them.

Red Evolve, transfer limit per email is 10mb like yahoo, and like cscgal said you get 1000mb of storage. It is also very easy to use, and very easy to find messages.
