adding line numbers?

Hello,
I wanted to post some code with line numbers and can't figure out how to do this. I searched the FAQ, and tried[list=1], but it didn't turn out right. I would hate to manually insert line numbers in my code. Can anybody help or point me in the right direction so that I can probably post my code?

Wrap your code in code tags [code][/code], but put in a language specifier, like so: [code=c]CODE GOES HERE[/code] or [code=cpp]CODE GOES HERE[/code]. The latter gives:
