internet explorer will not open an close?

I have ie7 and windows xp. I have a problem with opening and closing windows(links etc). Any time I open a new window I have to do it with a tab, if I don't and a new window opens it will not close without closing everything? I have upgraded, cleaned the registry and still keep having the same problem. Does anyone have any idea why this happens and how to correct it. Thanks

Do you run any add ons? like the Google tool bar?
For some reason IE 7 does not like some of the add ons. Or some of the add ons have not upgraded to IE7 yet. Try running IE with no add ons. If it still happens check with the link below

Try using Firefox for your browser, the only reason I have IE on mine is for the windows updates.
